Online Learning With WebTutor

If you are considering offering an online course or if you just want to enrich your campus course, our WebTutor product will give you a head start.  You can have your online course up and running in no time at all with text-specific WebTutor content and publisher support. Your school probably has a designated course management system, but you may not know what to do with it.  Here is a description of WebTutor and how it can help you develop an online course without doing all of the work yourself.

What Is WebTutor ?

WebTutor, which is available for all my books, consists of rich technology resources to improve both face-to-face and online classes. WebTutor provides you with the following features:

  • E-mail, chat, and threaded discussion
  • Preloaded chapter quizzes with feedback—automatically graded with results reported back to the instructor
  • Chapter learning objectives
  • Flashcards of glossary terms
  • E-lectures with narrated PowerPoint slides
  • Links to both video libraries
  • Additional grammar, punctuation, and writing improvement exercises
  • Preloaded discussion questions

The exciting aspect of using our preloaded materials is that you can easily blend, add, edit, reorganize, or delete content. After you customize your course, you just plug the WebTutor cartridge into your campus course management system and you are ready to go!

WebTutor Demonstration

To see a demonstration of WebTutor for one of my books:

  • Navigate to <http://www.cengage.com/tlc/webtutor/>.
  • Choose a Platform (Blackboard Learning System 6, 7, and 8 or one of the other platforms).
  • Click Available Titles.
  • For Discipline, type "Business Communication" or Search for your book title, author, or ISBN.
  • Find your book and click WebTutor - View Demo. Follow screen instructions.
  • For a demonstration of the resources we have prepared for this book, click Course Content (in WebCT) or Course Documents (in Blackboard).

After viewing the demo, you will probably have questions. This would be a good time to consult your local sales representative to help in learning more about what is available and narrowing down your choices.

Additional Online Resources

To help ease your workload and save you time, I have compiled a series of articles that will provide practical advice for organizing an online course.

In these articles you will find suggestions for setting up a course, first-week activities including sample messages to students, a list of recommended resources, how to use WebTutor, a grading rubric for online discussion performance, and recommendations for oral presentations. Instructors who register may view these articles at www.meguffey.com.
